We’re pushing a pair of balance changes in preparation for tomorrow’s next Oversky island. Let’s talk about them in context.
We discussed our general balancing policy for Oversky last Friday, but now we have a pair of specific changes to share with you.
Balance changes
Wild Growth
- Now only creates one forest at random.
- Faeria cost reduced from 2 to 1.
Wild Growth has, up until the Oversky, been a fairly innocuous card. With few heavy land cost creatures for Green to go for, this card didn’t really have enough targets to reach to make it that dangerous. With the introduction of Wild land costs, this card suddenly shines as the only method in the game of generating 2 special lands with 1 card. With even more methods of land ramp being added in the Oversky starting tomorrow, it’s no longer okay or necessary for this card to remain in its previous form.
Frog Tosser
- Health decreased from 6 to 4.
A card like Frog Tosser has never existed in Faeria before, and we knew this card was going to cause a lot of excitement. The ability to destroy a creature and have up to two harvesters remain on board is an incredibly attractive tool that pushes Green/Blue deck building. However, we feel that we didn’t properly gauge the devastating swings this card can often achieve with such a high health value. When Frog Tosser is able to trade and survive with most things at its cost level and below, it often costs the opponent far too many resources to answer in turn.
With a high land cost, this card is meant to be incredibly strong, just not “always the right play” strong. Our observations over the last week have confirmed to us that we need to make this body a bit more fragile.
The Whale in the Room
Yes, we hear the lamentations of the Skywhale.
This is a card we have a very close eye on, but will not be pushing a change to this week. With new cards on their way tomorrow and the hits to ramp decks in general today, we wanted to let things settle as we continue to observe the effect of Oversky on Faeria.
We know there are a lot of strong opinions out there about this iconic card of the Oversky, and of Swallow in general. We assure you we’ll continue to make changes we think are best for the game and result in the most diverse and exciting gameplay possible.
Thank you for reading, and see you tomorrow in Wisplight Falls.
