OVERVIEW

Looking for a different playstyle? Control decks are a rarity in Faeria but this deck embodies the kind of playstyle control players may be familiar with in other games. I’ve been playing this list for several months, including at Godrank and have had solid success with it (although no doubt the surprise factor can help).

MULLIGAN

On the mulligan your order of prioritization should be:

Doomgate
Wandering Monk
Annoying Gnat
Dustbringer Wraith/Laya
Demon Wrangler (Always keep these if you have Gnat)

PLAYSTYLE

This deck is pretty hard to pilot. In general you want to sit back and collect with some robust collectors (Laya/Dustbringer Wraith/Monk). Once you draw Doomgate start using it to cycle through your deck. Soul pact and demon wrangler both enable strong tempo plays. It’s important to understand that you aren’t really trying to ever win the board, generally you win by either finishing Doomgate and pushing with Radiance + Ostregoth, by clogging up the opponents hand with cost increased cards or by taking them to fatigue. Your tempo plays are Wrangler + Gnat, card draw + Monk and Soul Pact + anything. This is weaker than most decks you will verse but if you do it after say clearing with plague bearer + doomgate then you can get ahead on board somewhat.

Because you generally play through +80% of your deck unless you get stomped it’s important to consider the cards they may have left, especially large threats and burn as you will be quite low.

MATCHUPS

Most matchups play out fairly similarly. Expect to slowly lose the board as most decks out tempo you. You generally start to swing it back in your favour after a plague bearer combo. The hardest matchups are versus value decks with high HP creatures where your mid-sized creatures get traded with easily and you don’t have enough nightmares or AOE to take out the board. Versus these decks you HAVE to kill the collectors. If they can only play one card every two turns you can very easily fill up their hand and make it impossible for them to play stuff. If monogreen has multiple feeds you will lose though.

If you’re playing against a deck (e.g. anything blue) that runs Radiance, Scourge of Oversky save a Last Nightmare for it unless you absolutely have to burn it. A combination of trades and AOE should kill off everything else.

If you’re against a burn deck consider not playing Gnat. You have a lot of healing and can often out tempo after they burn Faeria and cards trying to kill you. It will be a tough matchup though,.
