That’s the point, it doesn’t. [quote=“Wavelength, post:9, topic:3910”]
If you are going to deflect a valid criticism with “yeah but people also have to pay for things in ‘real’ CCGs”, that’s going to fall flat because neither the business model nor the experience is the same.

Actually, Faeria is also the cheapest Online competitive CCG I’ve ever played. They could have gone way more expensive without no-one noticing.
But I see your point, it’s important that the game stay that way. I just think it’s better to remind the dev by praising what is actually good instead of complaining about something we know almost nothing.
Complaining about the communication, fine. Saying that Abrakam is all about quick cash as I saw lately is stupid and unfair.
If Faeria is the cheapest Online CCG you have played then you should try Shadowverse, you would be surprised.
Also compairing online CCGs with physical ones is stupid. First of all there is no trading. secondly cards in paper TCGs like Magic go up in value so in time you take some of the money back. Also in TCGs you have to pay printers, shipping costs and a lot of other things that digital doesn’t have.
Giving you an opportunity to talk to a new player who likes the Solo missions . Because I think it’s excellent. I’ve been playing for a few days and realizing I am too weak in cards to go into ranked yet (duh) just went for the solo missions and also Pandora.
Pandora is another topic entirely, but the solo content for me seems very well done. It’s doing a great job of teaching me as a new player, while providing some nice challenges (the puzzles later on are pretty well done and quite hard sometimes). It’s true that there is no story. However there is a lot of personality behind it (freakin loved the ogre dance party). Not to mention that I am very much satisfied with the amount of gold and chests they give.
Shadowverse. Try it, You get ~80 packs for free and the daily gold gain is huge. You don’t have to spend a single dime to get competitive if you play for a week.
Compared to that I bought the largest gem pack available in steam client (21000) and converted all of them to packs and got 1 legend card out of it. To tell the truth that was my last time spending money on this game. This much low drop rate in unacceptable.
It just feels like they are trying to squeeze as much money out of the players as possible in a short time.
I mean they have the Steam DLC and a week later they release information about an expansion.
They must have planned this for months and 8€ for pre-order for something you pretty much know nothing about? That’s shady. (https://www.faeria.com/news/patch-notes/139-introducing-the-adventure-pouch-oversky)
All these are vague outlines about what is in that adventure pouch. And to me it doesnt sound like you get much out of your 9€. And dont get me started on their 4h Twitch commercial. This all reeks like a quick cash grab.
I really like faeria but I think they should fix the game before working on an expansion. There many bugs and the game feels like it needs more polishing.
I’m not saying it’s actually the same, but at least there is element to say that it maybe is not that cheaper. I’ll try it tho because I love card games.
You had only 1 legendary in 84 packs ? That’s really really unfortunate. I opened maybe a hundred and got 7 or so (double legendaries pak helped). Honestly I feel you, it just sucks ! >.>
It’s not that stupid actually. What’s the difference between paying for overpriced pieces of cardboards and overpriced pixels ? The argument of intrinsic value is just based on MtG (and maybe pkmntcg). My L5R ccg collection ? Worthless since the game died. My NR collection ? same. My ANR LCG collection ? I would be happy to sell it for the quarter of its value. My fullset of Behind cards ? Worthless. Same with WoWTCG, Wakfu TCG etc etc…
Outside of MtG, you just spend money you will most likely never see coming back. That’s not that different. Maybe I just made peace with the fact that card games cost money) while others didn’t.
The trading part I agree. But with the ability to use multiple account (multiplying free stuff and redirecting it to a main account) it would mean doing thing like pkmntcg (free stuff cannot be exchanged). But I could make a case for it.
I already told you. printing, packaging, shipping, storing and all the other stuff I probably don’t know about. Compairing them is like compairing apples to oranges.
My only complain with Faeria is that they aren’t completely open with us. Can you buy the expansion with gold? Will the Co-Op be only for those who pay?
And also why add 6 new cards just a week after the game released just so you gift them to those who pre-order?
It’s not the first thing I did. I just read the forums looking for any information on the business model and if players were happy with it. Since it’s the core of our conversation it doesn’t seems so strange to me. I also stated that I was not saying it was actually the same.
I’m also decided to play it for a while. Don’t assume I’m a dishonest person. If Shadowverse is a good game who happens to be cheap, I would be the first person to recommend it to other.
Yeah because developping software, maintaining server etc… doesn’t cost money. It’s probably cheaper I agree, but we also got free stuff in online cg while almost none in irl cg. You actually can compare apples to oranges if you only want to know which ones are cheaper to eat.
Totally agree on the information part. They released info pourly and I hope it will be fixed.
Hey there, I just want to point out that today’s Faeria Friday blog post will hopefully answer a lot of the common questions regarding the expansion, such as whether or not you’ll eventually be able to purchase it with gold or gems.
Played for less than an hour. I don’t like the art and the gameplay so far is correct (i’m only doing the solo content).
Just to let you know that I’m currently drowning in packs. I have to admit it’s probably cheaper than Faeria
I agree. Not everyone likes anime art. But glad to know that I have proved my point. While your at it, just for the info they have a pretty unique Ranked mode. It doesn’t get reset every month, instead you get rewards based on the points you earn for a month. And you keep your rank. This is the thing I like best in this game. While in Faeria the art is simply the best. But sadly thats about it.
P.S. I recently found that you cant even play the full solo mode without paying for it (gold or crystals) in Faeria. GGWP
quick starting tutorial on how to f2p from some1 who just started playing 3 days ago(~24h atm according to steam):
~24 h played and i have 2 solo lanes finished, 4 legendaries and one or 2 golden missions left on lane 2( finished first one)
~i will admit i did pay 5$ to get the gold digger frog but with a recruiter you get the same start just by lvl-ing to 25( which you will easily)
get some1’s recruiter id (totalbuiscuit has it posted somewhere, i didn’t and lost 8 packs and 3 arena runs)
finish all available solo missions (first lane can be done full)
do all arena’s available ( got 2 arena’s done, ^no recruiter :(, got lucky, both went 7-3 = 4200 g and some packs 6/8 in total)
leave second lane last when you reach gold mission (aggro the fish gl T_T) AND go for the puzzles, you should have enough gold if you got lucky with 5/6 arena’s (you get 2/3 from the game*) to finish 3’rd lane or close to it
login daily for login reward, 400g quest and the arena trial**, even a 2/3-3 arena net’s you about ~1k gold
(NEVER USE gold to buy packs or arena while you still have solo missions left)
In the same time span if you manage the arena’s you should be at 50+ packs in less then a week and close to the 30 packs you get for finishing the solo lanes (or 3 packs, might just be bad animation) ***
P.S.: and if you like the game and want to help the devs get 5$ gems, get the frog (~9k gold or more) and a free lane, this way you finish solo in the same time span and can go straight into competitive with under ~50h played
*** edit: they give 30 dust (crystals, bad animation) which is worse than a pack so that’s that, apart from the cosmetic card pack (which is nice, dragons <3 ) they could really stand to improve the reward for finishing solo
*didn’t bother keeping track
** 3 wins and you get 1/3 of a free arena
if you recruit a friend or 2 you get even more stuff to get the gap to finish 3’rd lane if you did bad in arena
In all the Chests you got from the 21000 gems, what else did you open? I know that you got just one bad legendary (Tarum). What about all the Epics, Rares, and to a lesser extent commons that you got? People tend to gauge value based on Legendaries, but Epics and Rares are often better and more used than most of the Legendaries in the game. (The universally strong Legendaries are things like Aurora, Seifer, Khalim.)
same here. opened 60+ packs taurum and on neutral legendary, which isnt useful for beginner decks. but thats not the problem - to me the problem is the extremely few resources you get for disenchanting cards. it´s by far the worst i´ve ever seen in any game. after 60 packs i got around 400 (!!!), thats a little over one legendary or two epics. (compared to hearthstone: you need 50% more cards before sth is disenchanted, hearthstone max. 2 cards, here 3 cards - therefore you need way more packs to get a full set) - (compared to gwent: gwent is muuuuuch cheaper and you get way more freebies and cards, e.g. every 10 lvl you get a legendary + one epic (and every card except common is limited to ONE, not three).
considering that you usually need 3 of a kind in a deck to make it work… you need 3 epics of one type, after 60 packs you get at best one. so you have to craft the other two… aaaaand your 400 resources ar gone… and you still dont have a half decent deck, because most decks contain several legendaries, epics (3x) etc.
edit: i´m talking of hearthstone at release! now after several years and expansions it is of course harder to get all cards.
Remember you can re-roll the highest rarity card in a pack, so if you don’t have any Legendaries and you get one that you don’t like, you get another shot.
